COMMUNITY IMPACT

On  Dec 22, 2023, our bright youth journey came to Carewest again. Our volunteers really embraced the compassionate Christmas spirit in Calgary's frostly weather to not only play music to cheer up seniors, but also provide words of encouragement through giving over hundred cards to different seniors. We played guitar and piano, sang the songs of ginger bells, twelve days of Christmas shooting star in summer etc. Great job volunteers! Happy Holidays!

Our BYJ continues teaching basic English speaking classes to the Chinese immigrant seniors in order to help them integrate into Canadian society and enlighten their lives during the pandemic.  The seniors loved the classes and found them helpful.

We mentored high school students in R programming & Python etc. After seeing a wide gender disparity in data science, we initiated the "Youth Data Science Inspiration Project" where we received a $4341 grant from the Alberta Government to connect industry data scientists with younger girls with a total of 100+ mentorship hours. Furthermore, with the support of the grant, BYJ was able to create an AI lab equipped with 3D printers. This lab provides younger girls with free access to 3D printing technology, promoting them to explore this exciting field.

During the summer of 2022, BYJ’s ontario branch fundraised and donated another $500 worth of food to Oakville foodshare, a non-profit organization that gives food handouts to those who need it. We’re always looking out for opportunities to protect the vulnerable in our community.

During the winter of 2021, BYJ’s ontario branch fundraised and donated $500 worth of food to Oakville foodshare, a non-profit organization that gives food handouts to those who need it. We’re always looking out for opportunities to protect the vulnerable in our community.

An abundant number of our Bright Youth Journey volunteers all got into the holiday spirit to create hundread cards for seniors at the Carewest Pointe Senior Center. These cards will help deliver a sense of Christmas joy and warmth for lonely seniors who cannot see their families during this frosty season. We hope the seniors enjoy it and thank our youth volunteers for making this happen!

Hi Bright Youth Journey team!

Hope you are well. I wanted to send a quick note to say Happy Holidays, and thank you for all of your support this past year – we truly wouldn’t be where we are without the generosity of donors like you all! It was wonderful getting to meet a few of you this year as well during your cheque presentations outside of the hospital! I also did want to send a quick update to let you know that the upload of your previous donors to your new Classy fundraising page will be done this week!

I look forward to continue working together and cannot wait for what 2022 has in store.

Wishing you a warm and safe Holiday season, and a Happy New Year!

Regards,

Carmen

Bright Youth Journey is a proud supporter of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.  There are over 102,000 children and families who come through the doors of the Alberta Children's Hospital every year.  We work together to build healthier future for children.

There are only 9 children cancer treatment locations combined in North & South Carolina. Children's Cancer Partners provides comprehensive support and loving compassion to families whose children are battling cancer by providing resources to the families for travel and sustenance. We are happy to continue supporting their mission.

Bright Youth Journey supports the mission of SickKids.  The health and wellbeing of our children mean a better future for our society.

BYJ sent cards with handwritten messages to the senior residents at the nursing home in Simpsonville, South Carolina.  We hope to lift their spirits and remind them that people are thinking of them.

Amazing Bright Youth Journey kids! We hosted our concert for Carewest Signal Pointe Senior Centre. It was such a fun time sharing the melody with our community. Our talented kids played piano, violin, cello and brought lots of joy to the seniors!

BYJ high school volunteer, Ben Zhang, taught  basic English speaking classes to the Chinese immigrant seniors in order to help them integrate into Canadian society and enlighten their lives during the pandemic.  The seniors loved the classes and found them helpful.

BYJ donated $500 worth of food to the local food bank to help those in the community who were impacted by the pandemic.

This is the Endorsement letter from our beneficiary- AB Children's Hospital for our "Bright Youth Journey Kids Helping Kids" fundraising initiatives.

Over the past three years, as Calgarians rallied to create a new Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health, the need to support an equally vulnerable Emerging Adult population became evident and urgent. Today, sobering facts and community concern heightened by the fallout of Covid-19 have inspired the development of an integrated clinical and research mental health initiative focused on helping 16- to 24-year-olds. Bright Youth Journey is supporting Emerging Adult Mental Health Research in Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation(ACHF). We ask for your generous help. Your donation will help to better support young people who are falling between the cracks of the pediatric and adult mental health care systems.

Another part we would like to support is Neuro developmental Disorders among Children. Our community support is required to help the ACH build an integrated clinical and translational research system to develop new knowledge and therapies, enhance clinical care coordination. Bright Youth Journey Teen Volunteers raised $2,080 during the 2021 March Break for the ACHF Health Program!

BYJ is trying to spread holiday spirit, warmest regards & joy and fill Senior's hearts with 2020 Christmas cards to remind them that they are loved, supported and fondly thought of this holiday season even at pandemic crisis time.

We collected  hundreds of cards and sent them over to Senior care Centers in local Calgary, Alberta; Regina, Saskatchewan and Streetsville, Ontario.  These cards can alleviate Seniors' Loneliness and Depression during the Covid hard time.

"They were well appreciated and liked by the residents here. " From the assistant in Verve Senior Living, Streetsville, Ontario,Canada

Concerts for Seniors

In collaboration with Genhelp, Bright Youth Journey’s volunteers dedicated their time and endeavors to providing musical entertainment for seniors faced with the major issue of loneliness as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The concerts were carried out to senior centers, Carewest Rouleau Manor on Sept. 11, 2020, and Bethany Riverview on Sept. 18, 2020.  Many of the residents haven’t left the senior homes since the beginning of the pandemic. The concert brought some much-needed relief and enjoyment for them. Bright Youth Journey received emails saying how residents went into the directors of the center’s offices, telling them how much they enjoyed the concert. Musical performances included the piano, guitar, singing, and clarinet.

From Carewest :"Thank You for the wonderful performance. Everyone enjoyed it. It’s been a tough couple of months being in lock down and the concert brought so much joy. Everyone was talking about it for days. We really appreciate the time and effort that went into planning this and especially to the performers for sharing their talents with us. "
